Blossom
Within 24 hours of Blossom's entry into our program, she had to be rushed to our vet, where tests were ordered. The results showed us that Blossom was much sicker than her symptoms were letting on. During Blossom's stay in our program, she had to be hospitalized more than once. More testing was ordered for illnesses, diseases, and a team of volunteer specialists monitored her chart (thank the universe!!). When every test we ordered came back negative, we were stumped! Blossom was placed on a few trial medications while we searched for answers to solve her mystery illness. Once healthy enough (which took quite a while), Blossom was transferred to our Oregon rescue partner that specializes in medical cases. Once she was with our Oregon rescue partner, and with a few more medication trials and extensive testing, they were able to confirm that Blossom had an Immune Mediated Myositis, which meant her body was trying to destroy her own muscles! Blossom is doing great on her medication regimen and will be available for adoption soon through her rescue in Oregon!
Sutton
Sutton was saved from being euthanized at our Fresno city shelter. He arrived extremely malnourished due to the stress many dogs experience in a kennel facility. Within 19 days he became skin and bones. After leaving the shelter, Sutton was placed into one of our amazing foster homes where he was later was diagnosed with a severe respiratory disease acquired during his time in the city shelter. Sutton stayed with his loving foster, received the medical assistance he needed, and was then transported to our rescue partner in Oregon where he found his "furever" home with a family that will never fail him again.
Theo
Theo was living in a neighborhood colony. One day, a good samaritan noticed Theo's face was in rough shape; he had scabs, open sores, he was malnourished, and his eyes were gooped shut from infection. We placed Theo into one of our trusted foster homes. It did not take very long for our foster to notice Theo was not doing well. His breathing became very labored, and he seemed very bloated. We asked the foster to take Theo to the vet and after a few tests, the vet was able to confirm that Theo had Feline Leukemia (FeLV). There is no cure for FeLV, but caught at an early stage, cats can live happy lives with proper medication and environment. FeLV is contagious to other cats, and Theo would only be able to be adopted to a home with no other cats OR a home with other FeLV+ cats. We reached out to a cat rescue that specializes in FeLV cats; they agreed to take Theo, but he did need to be added on a wait list until they had room. Luckily Theo had an amazing foster home, that cared for Theo through his best and worst times. Within a month, Theo was successfully transferred to a wonderful CA rescue partner, where he will get to spend the rest of his life in an amazing cat colony with other FeLV cats.
Dudley
We viewed a gut-wrenching video of a sobbing dog at our city shelter. One look at the video, and we could not pass up the opportunity to take this dog to our vet's office. His eyes were glued shut from eye discharge. He arrived at our vet's where Dudley was given a proper exam, received medical testing, and take-home medication to help with his eyes. Based on the results we received from the completed tests, we knew Dudley's days would be limited, so we made it our mission to make sure he had proper care and love for however much time he had. Once healthy enough for travel, Dudley was transferred to a senior rescue partner in Oregon where he lived the rest of his days in a loving foster home. Unfortunately, Dudley lost his fight to a brain tumor. While his story may not be the happiest, we know he was loved in his last months of life.
Penny
This cutie patootie came from a home with approximately 50 dogs! The owner reached out for help, and within a few days we were able to remove over 40 animals from the property which were accepted into a few other rescues. Penny, like many dogs from hoarding situations, was shy at first but with a patient foster, she came out of her shell and turned out to be a great little dog with a sweet personality! Penny was transferred to one of our Oregon rescue partners, and has been adopted into a loving, furever home!
Bev
Bev was scheduled to be euthanized at our city shelter because of her age. She was an owner surrender, and her prior owner advised she was a "super senior". Unfortunately, older animals are not given a proper chance with our city shelter, and she was immediately placed for "rescues only". Once we were able to assess Bev, we felt she was not as old as she was stated to be and took her to our vet for a second opinion; the vet agreed! She was older, but definitely not a "super senior", she had many years left in her! Bev was transferred to an Oregon rescue partner, where she was adopted! Her adopter is happy to have Bev in her life and her new (and furever) owner adores her and all of their adventures!
